Our story
Built by golfers who were tired of guessing.
Downswing is a marketplace for new, used and vintage golf gear, with the two things every club deal needs: an honest read on condition and an honest read on price.
Why we started
Every golfer has a closet with a driver that didn’t work out, a putter they swore by for one season and a set of irons they outgrew. Selling that gear used to mean choosing between a trade-in quote that felt like an insult and a classifieds post with a stranger in a parking lot. Buying was worse: a photo of a club head taken from eight feet away, the word “great” doing a lot of work, and no idea whether $280 was a deal or a fleece.
We built DownSwing to fix both sides. It works like the best used rack in your favorite pro shop: every club is graded on the same scale, every spec is listed, and there is a number on the wall that tells you what it is actually worth.
What makes it different
Honest condition grading
Seven grades, from Brand New to For Parts, with golf-specific definitions. Face wear, groove sharpness, sky marks, grip wear and shaft bands are described, not hidden behind “lightly used.” Sellers grade to the same scale, buyers know what they are getting, and a listing that isn’t as described is covered. Read the condition guide.
A price guide built from real sales
Every completed order adds a sale record: model, condition, dexterity, flex, price. We roll those into 12-month averages by model and by condition, so you can see that a mint TSR3 sells for one number and a fair one for another. Nothing is estimated from retail prices. Browse the price guide.
Buyer protection on every order
Payment is held until the item ships. If it arrives not as described, damaged or not at all, open a case and we sort it out, including a full refund where that is the right outcome. How buyer protection works.
Sellers with a track record
Sellers connect a verified payout account and earn reviews on real sales. Shops show their rating, sales count and policies up front, and repeat offenders are removed.
How we make money
Listing is free and buying is free. We charge sellers a flat percentage when an item sells, plus the card processing fee, and nothing else. No subscriptions, no featured-placement auctions. See the fee schedule with a worked example.
Trades, because golfers trade
Half the conversations at any range end with “I’d swap you for it.” Sellers can accept trade offers alongside cash, and buyers can propose their own club plus cash in one offer. How trades work.
We are golfers first. If something on DownSwing ever feels like a bad lie, tell us at the help center and we’ll fix it.
