Trades and trade-in offers

Offer your old putter plus cash for the one you actually want. Here is how a trade offer works from both sides, and how to make one that gets a yes.

How a trade offer works

  1. The seller opts in. Listings that accept trades show a swap icon on the card and a “Trades welcome” note on the page, usually with what the seller is looking for (“after a Spider Tour or a 3-wood”).
  2. You make an offer with a club attached. Choose Make offer, then Add a trade. Pick one of your own live listings, or describe the club and add photos on the spot. Enter the cash you would add on top (it can be zero).
  3. The seller reviews the trade. They can accept, decline, counter the cash amount or ask questions in the offer thread. Offers expire after 48 hours.
  4. Both sides ship. On acceptance, the cash portion is paid at checkout and held, and both parties get a shipping label step. Each side adds tracking from the order page.
  5. Inspection and release. Each side has 3 days from delivery to inspect what they received. When both windows close without a case, the cash is released to the seller.

Fees on trades

The selling fee applies to the cash portion only. A straight swap with no cash has no selling fee; payment processing applies only if money changes hands. See fees.

Making an offer that gets accepted

Match the ask
Read what the seller said they want. A seller after a mallet putter won’t take your 60° wedge, however nice it is.
Use the price guide
Value your club at its average for its condition in the price guide, not what you paid. Cash should cover the gap to the seller’s price.
Grade honestly
Your trade is graded on the same scale as any listing, and the seller can open a case if it arrives below grade.
Photograph it like a listing
Face, sole, crown, grip, shaft band. Sellers accept trades they can see.
Say why
One sentence about why you’re trading goes a long way. Golfers trust golfers.

For sellers

  • Turn on Accept trades in the listing form and write what you’re after. Vague listings get vague offers.
  • You can decline any trade for any reason; there is no penalty.
  • Counter the cash, not the club. If the club is wrong, decline and say what would work.
  • A trade you receive is covered by buyer protection just like a purchase: not as described means you can open a case.
Keep it on Downswing

Trades arranged off-site, or “just send it and I’ll send mine,” aren’t protected. Every covered trade goes through an accepted offer and two tracked shipments.

What can go wrong, and what happens

  • One side doesn’t ship. After 5 business days with no tracking, the other party can cancel. Anything already shipped is returned at the non-shipper’s expense, and the cash is refunded.
  • A club arrives below its grade. Open a case with photos within 3 days. Resolutions range from a partial cash adjustment to unwinding the whole trade.
  • Repeated problems. Users who misgrade trades lose the ability to offer them.
